Mark Palmer, Municipal Green Building Coordinator, SF Department of
the Environment: "California Academy of Sciences: Three Acres Added
to Golden Gate Park"

The new California Academy of Sciences is scheduled to open in Fall
2008, and the building has already accumulated numerous awards,
accolades and international recognition as the premier green
building in the country. With its innovative Living Roof and LEED
Platinum building standards, it is predicted that the new
California Academy of Sciences will join the Golden Gate Bridge,
cable car, and the Transamerica building as venerable and
well-known symbol of San Francisco. With nearly 2 million visitors a
year, the Academy will be the most visited LEED Platinum building in
the world.

The new California Academy of Sciences is a shining example of the
groundbreaking standards set by the City of San Francisco regarding
municipal construction projects. Join Mark Palmer, Municipal Green
Building Coordinator, for an overview of integrated design and high
performance building strategies employed on this project, plus a
visual tour through the 3-story rainforest, digital planetarium,
coral reef and living roof.
