OWA Mentorship Program
The Organization of Women Architects and Design Professionals is pleased to announce the OWA Mentorship Program.
This program is designed to help members take advantage of the wonderful diversity that is present within our group, from the unique perspective of being women design professionals.
Interested members will be asked to fill out a short questionnaire which establishes some key points that will be used to match mentors and "mentees". A database will be created which mentees may browse and search through in order to determine a match with the help of the Mentorship Program Coordinator. Any member may choose to be a mentor as well as a mentee at any time.
While the program is still being developed, and each mentoring relationship is expected to be different, some possible benefits and guidelines are as follows:
A Mentor Is A Person Who Provides...
Personal Development
- Provides friendship and guidance.
- Offers an alternate perspective.
- Introduces your mentee to positive role models who have gone through similar experiences.
- Assists with identifying her strengths and areas of improvement.
- Encourages goal setting and achievement of those goals.
Career Development
- Advice on career growth options.
- Discusses particular fields of interest.
- Selecting specific companies to work for.
- Developing resumes and cover letters.
- Introducing your mentee to a variety of information and resources to assist her in preparing for specific careers/jobs.
What Is Expected Of A Mentor or Mentee?
- Mentors should encourage the mentee to approach other people for information and develop her own network of resources.
- Willingness to have regular contact with the mentor/mentee.
- Willingness to attend OWA events and/or plan recommended activities, which could enhance your mentoring relationship.
How do I sign up?
If you want to be either a mentor or a mentee, please select the appropriate checkbox either when you register for membership, or by editing your profile after registration.
