This small 2-story addition to an existing home was designed by Geoff Holton and myself for a couple in the Berkeley flats. I was responsible for all construction drawings, coordination, and permitting.
The owners took an active role in choosing many of the interior finish materials such as paint, flooring and light fixtures. However, our interior stair rail details and Geoff's discovery of salvaged perforated aluminum sheet at a local scrap yard further enhanced the quality of the interior space. The exterior of the addition makes use of such durable materials as fiber cement board and galvanized corrugated metal. The owners plan to install a small rainwater catchment system and drought tolerant landscaping in the future.
