Newsletter Contents | 1972-2001

The OWA Newsletter has always been a vital instrument to our group as it announces the location of meetings which vary from members homes, architectural or design offices, community buildings or other places of interest to meeting organizers (new, historic or member's projects for example.) It also has recorded the broad range of issues members have been concerned with and the incredible numbers of members who have participated in writing articles and or editing the OWA Newsletter. In the early years the table of contents takes two pages: one from January to June, the second from July to December, the later years only one page. The editor(s), topics and page number are noted. The publication design has changed over the years and issues range from one to 13 pages but the average is four pages. Sometimes inserts, illustrations, photos and cartoons are noted. 172 OWA Newsletters have been published by 155 different editors over the past 30 years. These newsletters announce and report on meetings, present feature articles, discuss OWA organizational issues, propose the annual budget, review books, show member's projects, record interviews and share work or travel experiences. Job openings, workshops, event calendars and members' news show up too. Current Steering Committee members and the OWA Health Plan were listed in each issue. The first 15 years here were compiled in 1987 when they were microfilmed and donated with the OWA Newsletters to the University of California College of Environmental Library in Berkeley, California. The table of contents for the second 15 years was compiled in 2002, when the two parts were combined and formatted for the OWA web site to help celebrate OWA's 30th year anniversary. --Wendy Bertrand
