2009 AIA Conference Session on Work/Life Balance
Katherine Austin - May 28,08 2:17PM

I am putting together a submittal for a 90 min session for 2009, deadline July 1, midnight. I have had sessions accepted/well attended for the last 3 Nat. Conventions. I'm looking for examples of firm policies that allow for retaining talent that needs time off or flexibility to deal with life, such as care for a newborn, ill relative, recent adoption, etc. This would be beyond the Family Leave Act and be reflected in the diversity of the firm (ie. women and minorities close to their percentages in the population if poss.) I have good examples for large and medium size firms but need examples where small or sole practitioners ban together to help each other. Examples could be day care referrals, covering for each other during times of illness etc. The goal is to present National AIA Leadership with model policies that can be distributed to the entire membership as examples of how to attract and keep talent. Feel free to email me directly at kaaustin@pacbell.net
