The Future of Shelter: Where do we go from here?

The Symposium is a whole day event, a two hour presentation in the morning and a two hour presentation in the afternoon with a lunch break and a final discussion moderated by our discussant. Tickets for the symposium include a box lunch from a well-known local restaurant.

There will be an evening reception for the speakers after the Symposium in a small restaurant, Cafenated, in Berkeley. You are highly encouraged to come and meet the speakers. Payment for the reception is separate from the Symposium ticket.

A tour and talk prepared for OWA+DP members to see the HOK office and some of their latest buildings and projects.

The tour will be led by Shiva Mendez, Principal, specializing in Healthcare. She serves on HOK’s Board of Directors and co-leads HOK’s firm-wide Diversity Advisory Council with Kimberly Dowdell AIA’s 2024 President.

The office is in a Modern Architecture Landmark building which was the first International style building in San Francisco, built as the headquarters of the Crown Zellerbach.

Join us for an interactive evening with food and drinks generously provided by HOK SF Office.

The location is close to the Montgomery BART Station. We will meet in the lobby of the building and then make our way upstairs to the HOK office.

Leslie Golden is a licensed landscape architect with over 30 years of transforming public spaces through sustainable landscape solutions. Retired from the public workforce, she is currently focused on residential work. As one of the first Bay-Friendly Qualified Professionals and Rater, she is committed to designing spaces that conserve our natural resources and enhance animal habitats. She specializes in California natives and drought-tolerant, low-maintenance plant material.

The event is a family potluck held outdoors in the beautiful backyard of Gilda Puente-Peters. We will send a potluck sign-up form to those registered.

Join us for a lively Zoom presentation by Rose Garrison on Tuesday, November 14, 2023 from 6:30 – 7:45 PM. The speaker will be the long-time Northern California Architectural Services Dunn-Edwards Representative, Rose Garrison.

The paint technology program includes:
• Four basic components of paint and their impact on quality and performance
• Mechanisms of paint film formation
• The relationship between pigment and binder levels in paint
• Making submittal review easy using a “Basis for Design” and technical data information

The paint components have changed so much in the past 15 years that it’s important to understand what the changes have been, and why.

Further, what changes are coming? Wallpaper is undergoing a revival now, for example. How will paint compete?
