‘INTERGENERATIONAL HOUSING- Cluster Courtyard’
By Sandhya Sood

An intergenerational way of dwelling need not be provided on a house by house basis but rather as a sustainable framework of open spaces woven into the built fabric. Using the principles of New Urbanism and low energy vernacular architecture, the proposed design explores the potential of streets and courtyards as connectors and separators integrated with house form. The versatile structure of the ‘cluster module’ as a prototypical neighborhood unit allows spatial transformation through assembly and axial placement, establishing a formal organizational pattern. This methodology facilitates an organic typology of diverse house types and sizes supporting an intergenerational community.
