Julia Morgan Project Event - Aug 26th

Leslie Golden - 8/18/10 5:56PM  |  Share

Hello, Organization of Women Architects:

We’d like to invite you to join us at the Commonwealth Club (map) in San Francisco on Thursday Aug 26th at 6 p.m. “We” are the women of The Julia Morgan Project—three women in theatre who have joined creative forces to produce the Bay Area premiere of the award-winning play Becoming Julia Morgan. The play will perform at Julia’s “little castle”, the Berkeley City Club (map), on December 3, 2010 and run thru January 9, 2011.

The Julia Morgan Project consists of playwright Belinda Taylor, who wrote Becoming Julia Morgan when commissioned by Sabrina Klein, producer, when she was executive director at the Julia Morgan Center for the Arts. They are joined by theatre director Barbara Oliver, founder of the award-winning Aurora Theatre in Berkeley, which got its start at the Berkeley City Club. Check us out at www.juliamorganproject.org.

At the Commonwealth Club presentation, we will talk about our attraction to Julia Morgan as an architect and as woman of incredible depth, uncompromising integrity and clarity. We will read excerpts from the play and discuss our personal relationships to the spaces Morgan designed—Belinda’s mother, for example, was a resident at the Berkeley Women’s Club for many years before it became the Berkeley City Club. We all feel kindred spirit to her and her work. And we hope you will join us at the Commonwealth Club on Aug 26th to learn more about who we are and what we celebrate.

Later, of course, we’d love to invite you to see the play. And perhaps we can talk about a special performance or activities around the play that might be of interest to your members?

Please let me know if you have any questions. And please share the attached flyer with anyone in your membership who would might be interested in learning more about the Julia Morgan Project.

Warmest regards,

Sabrina Klein
