OWA Retreat 2015

Organization of Women Architects and Design Professionals
18 - 20 September 2015, Westerbeke Ranch, Sonoma, California, http://www.westranch.com/

Creativity & Play
The Program: Creativity is one of the most valuable skills for
the future. The ability to dream, take chances, and create the things
we imagine - these are critical 21st century skills of entrepreneurs,
innovators and change makers. As children we are born with these
exceptional talents but research shows that over time we begin to
lose them. As designers, architect, and planners we think of ourselves as
"creatives." For children, these creative powers come naturally, but
as adults, we need to exercise and maintain them or risk losing
them. Gretchen Addi, Associate Partner at IDEO, an award winning global
design and innovation consultancy, will introduce techniques
developed by IDEO to encourage creating thinking. We will return to
a child's mind and enjoy some open exploratory play and take
creative risks among friends.
Gretchen's current focus at IDEO is to develop a portfolio of work
around aging. She is passionate about the power of empathy and
design to better understand and serve the needs of the aging
population.

Fun with Music & Movement: This year we will join
Michelle Morales for a session of dance related movement which
will prepare the group for Saturday night's party. On Sunday,
Leslie Murphy will lead us in a session of Movement/Mindfulness
Yoga. For live music and dancing on Saturday night, Homenagem
Brasiliana will play. The band embraces the diversity of Brazilian
music and is well known for its warm and sensual performances.

Show & Tell: At Friday night's show and tell, we propose a
variation on the our usual theme, which will be described in the
package sent to everyone who signs up for the Retreat.

Art project: This year we will continue the theme of Creativity
and Play in the art project, details to be announced at the Retreat.

Join us for a weekend of conversation, fun exercise, hiking,
swimming, hot tub, massage, music, art, and good food. Give
everybody a chance to know you better, develop closer ties with
friends and colleagues, and go home inspired by new ideas from
our group.
